The Campari Cocktail

A classic aperitif is the Campari cocktail. Simple. Elegant. Visually intriguing. And perfectly designed to stimulate your appetite.

Officially classified as a “bitters,” Campari was invented in Italy in the middles of the 19th century by Gaspare Campari. It is easily recognized by it distinctive, deep-red color, which was originally produced by the addition of carmine, a red dye derived from the crushed shells of cochineal insects. This liqueur is the result of infusing alcohol and water with fruit and herbs. Commonly used in the Americano, Garibaldi, and Negroni cocktails, when it comes to serving as an aperitif, keeping it simple might be your best bet.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 oz. Campari Liqueur
  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1 Lemon twist

DIRECTIONS

Combine Campari liqueur, vodka, and bitters in an ice filled shaker and shake. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist.
